31 August 2024 -
A Kingston squad XV concluded their pre-season preparations with a solid win against a Teddington 2XV at Hook Road.
Teddington opened the scoring with a try from a well worked rolling maul down the slope.
Sparked into life, Kingston took the game by the scruff of the neck with some powerful charges from Darragh Kelly and Hugo Eyre through the middle enabling them to exploit the space out wide. It wasn’t long before No.8 Darragh Kelly crashed over for his first try of the afternoon, swiftly followed by another.
Harry Collins was next to get on the score sheet with a well finished try following a pin-point cross field kick from Ross McTear.
Darragh Kelly rounded off an excellent performance with another try from a powerful surge from close range to top his hat trick, before coming off for a well deserved rest.
The pressure did not let up as newly converted forward Elton Gwekwete brought his trade mark physicality to the pitch, bouncing defenders and swan diving over the line.
On return from injury Charlie Kelly put in a good shift, despite side stepping away from the try line and picking up a yellow card for a high shot.
Not to be outdone, Teddington put together some strong passages of play and were well martialled by their 10, exploring the space and scoring two tries out wide.
Score sheet regulars Hugo Eyre, Luke Burge and Ross McTear also got over the line to top a great afternoon.
A big thank you for Teddington for stepping up and providing the fixture. Best of luck for the rest of the season.
Congrats to Hamish McRae on his debut for the maroon and white, an assured performance off the bench.
With two solid pre-season victories and the whole squad getting some much needed minutes, there have been some stand out performances. This should give the coaches some selection headaches as Kingston head to Chipstead next Saturday at 3pm for the league opener in what is sure to be a tough test. Travelling support is always welcome.
